The following was an email we sent to each legislator in Utah last week. Even those who disagreed agreed on federalism
Federalism is a form of governing in a republic that was launched in earnest, for the first time, through the efforts of the 1787Constitutional Convention. The men who gathered for the convention did not agree on everything and the states’ citizens they represented also disagreed on many things.
Interposition is the cousin of nullification

State nullification trumps federal supremacy

For this new system to work supremacy would have to be established in each level of governing duty. At the federal level the Constitution and the Laws of the United States were declared supreme over states, counties, wards, and individual people. This is pretty much the way it is taught, it may well sound familiar to those who recently completed a civics class. Not only was it critical for maintaining the balanced center between tyranny and anarchy, it was so critical nearly every citizen would raise their hand and swear an oath to defend it against foreign foes and domestic foes. However, the title of this article is state nullification trumps federal supremacy. How can that be?
